Dull, dry sagging skin with a loss of volume and facial contour is a direct result of age, gravity, sun damage, hormone changes, and a declining ability to retain water in the skin. This combination of factors leads to a loss of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid.
There are 3 major factors that give your skin its youthful volume and "bounce". Collagen is the primary protein in the skin, giving your skin its strength and structure. Elastin helps create elastic fibers that provide stretch, recoil, and "bounce" to the skin. Hyaluronic acid contributes to the extracellular matrix, supporting collagen and elastin production.

Your stratum corneum, the surface of the skin you see in the mirror, sheds 500,000,000 microscopic dead skin cells a day - including cells lining your follicles.
In a normal process, oil in the follicle pushes these cells to the surface, where they're then shed off.
In people with acne, dead cells sometimes stick together, becoming microscopic clumps (or microcomedones) that block the outflow of oil.
Once blocked, typically harmless c. acnes (previously known as p. acnes) bacteria in the environment are able to flourish in the oil rich and air-free follicle, creating inflammation, which leads to more shedding of cells and more blockage - ultimately leading to a visible acne lesion.
In addition to hyaluronic acid, face moisturizers act by reducing water loss from the skin, while emollients and essential fatty acids (EFA's) help to reduce water loss, keeping the skin soft and hydrated.
Hyaluronic Acid (HA)
Hyaluronic acid is one of the most important skin care ingredients to improve facial volume and laxity in the skin. A single HA molecule can bind over 1000 times its weight in water giving the skin "structure", while also providing resources necessary to produce new collagen and elastin. For HA to be effective, you need to be able to reach different parts of the skin. This requires use of varying sizes (macro to micro-molecular) and forms (cross-linked and liposomal encapsulated) of HA. Certain ingredients are shown to enhance our skin's ability to product (synthesis) and retain hyaluronic acid like Saccharomyces lysate and StimulHyal Calcium Ketogluconate.
Retinoids
Retinoids, like all-trans-retinol, stimulate collagen production and thicken the dermis to reduce the appearance of wrinkles but not all retinoids are created equally. The type of retinoid, the concentration and the manufacturing process directly affect the efficacy and result of the final product.
Antioxidants
In addition to being powerful antioxidants, known for protecting your skin from free radical damage and premature aging, Vitamin C & DMAE are shown to improve common aging skin concerns like laxity and wrinkles. Vitamin C plays a major role in the body including assisting collagen and elastin production, giving skin its youthful "bounce". However, despite its importance to the body, Vitamin C is not naturally produced by humans so it needs to come from external sources. DMAE, a precursor to acetylcholine, is shown to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and helps by lifting and toning the appearance of facial contours.
Peptides & Growth Factors
Peptides & Growth Factors serve as building blocks for collagen and elastin in the skin. They react to specific receptor sites so they can trigger and signal more effective skin functioning, helping skin to act in a younger way. They assist in correcting some of the cellular behavior that has occurred as a result of aging and therefore help with the skin's healing and repair to rebuild collagen & elastin to improve skin's overall quality including skin texture and skin elasticity.
